Coastal fashion on the horizon

By  0 comments

Seasalt and Mat de Misaine are both coastal brands established fairly recently (1981 and 1990, respectively,) both are dedicated to using natural materials, and both stand for a smart-casual-come-sporty style, but it would be, of course, a mistake to equate the two. Their similarities are apparent, but it’s their differences that define each of these exciting labels.

Seasalt clothing comes from Falmouth Bay, Cornwall, and a certain Cornish charm in the design is immediately apparent. Influenced greatly by coastal tradition, Seasalt add a dash of modernity and glamour, and the result is something authentic yet contemporary, built for relaxed wear while looking sharp and smart. But something you might not notice outright is that they use more organic cotton (certified by the Soil Association) than any other company, and you probably didn’t know that they were the very first fashion company to do so. Once you’ve felt the material, however, or tried on one of their garments, you’ll become very aware that there’s something special about the organic threads they use. Knowing this, the brand reveals itself as something even more, and you’ll notice references to trees, flowers and other aspects of nature in their prints and cuts. The synergy between coast, nature, material and lifestyle is carefully interwoven, but brilliantly effective.

Mat de Misaine draw upon Atlantic seafaring forms in their designs. Like St James, the rugged feel of fishermen’s clothing inspires them, bringing faded canvas, durable materials and heavy shapes to the fore. However, this is juxtaposed with glamour, exhibited in elegant cuts and flowing silhouettes. While these brands both love coast and sea, you can sense that they each lean a different way. At Boatique we made sure to stock both, to offer customers the best of coast and sea. As a fashion coupling, these two brands will transport your wardrobe leagues ahead!
